Seasoned Waffle Fries FAQs

A:

Cutting waffle fries requires a crinkle-cut slicer or mandoline with a waffle blade. Follow these steps:

1. Select the Right Potato: Use firm potatoes for the best texture. McCain's farm grown potatoes exude this texture with love and care for our agricultural process.

2. Use a Mandoline Slicer: Set your mandoline to the waffle or crinkle-cut setting.

3. Slice with a Quarter-Turn Technique: Slice the potato downward, then rotate it 90 degrees before slicing again. Repeat this process for each cut to create the signature waffle pattern.

4. Adjust Thickness as Needed: Aim for slices about ¼-inch thick for crispy fries or thicker for a softer bite.

5. Soak and Dry: Soak the cut fries in cold water for 30 minutes to remove excess starch, then pat them dry before frying or baking.

A:

  - While a mandoline with a waffle or crinkle-cut blade simplifies the process, you can manually cut waffle fries using a sharp knife and a steady hand. However, achieving uniform thickness and the classic waffle pattern may be more challenging. To create the criss-cross pattern, stack a few slices together and slice them diagonally in the opposite direction. It may take a bit of practice but, with some patience, great results are sure to come.

A:

Yes, you can season frozen waffle fries before cooking to enhance their flavor profile. Adding some touches of garlic powder, paprika, or seasoned salt before baking or air frying can add a personal touch to your snack. When baking, a little oil can help the seasonings stick and promote a bolder crunch. When using an air fryer or deep fryer, season right after cooking while these fries are still hot to help the flavors stick and pair well.
