Crinkle Cut French Fry FAQs
What is the difference between straight and crinkle cut fries?
The key differences come down to shape, texture, and how they complement your meals.
-
Shape: crinkle cut fries have signature wavy ridges, while straight fries are smooth and uniform.
-
Texture: the ridges on crinkle cuts help hold seasoning and dips better and create a layered bite. Straight cut fries provide a smooth, consistently crisp surface that evenly distributes fry and dip flavor.
What seasoning goes best with crinkle fries?
Crinkle fries are a flavor-lover’s dream — the wavy surface allows this fry type to grab hold of numerous kinds of seasonings after they have been cooked. Some top seasoning combos to try:
-
Savory Kick: garlic and onion powder with a touch of paprika
-
Spicy: Cajun, chili powder, or cayenne
-
Herby: rosemary, thyme, or Italian seasoning
-
Fresh Finish: chopped chives or parsley with a sprinkle of parmesan
Try mixing and matching based on your mood or meal. The extra surface area of crinkle fries allows them to be compatible with numerous seasoning combinations.
Why are crinkle cut fries shaped the way they are?
The iconic crinkle shape’s purpose is all about enhancing flavor, texture, and versatile use. Crinkle cutters slice fries into ridged waves, giving each fry:
-
More surface area for extra amounts of our signature, golden-brown texture
-
Better grip on seasonings, sauces, and dips
-
A fun balance of diverse, crispy textures and warm centers in every bite
-
Strong structure - thicker fry formations create sturdier shapes that hold up better to dips, sauces and gravy.
How do you make crinkle fries extra crispy?
For maximum crispiness, preheat your oven or air fryer, spread the fries in a single layer, and avoid overcrowding the pan or air fryer basket.
